Tipsy

You know, it’s really a shame that all the coolest idioms are about being drunk.  Well, that and a few other things like sex.  But the point remains that there’s no way for me to use them on a regular basis, and that is a crying shame.  Such evocative phrases really deserve better treatment.

three sheets to the wind
a trifle above par
a trifle disguised
ape-drunk
bosky
dipping rather deep
in his cups
foxed
half-sprung
shot in the neck

(Most of those are gleaned from Georgette Heyer’s books, by the way – she wrote historical romances with beautifully-researched accurate settings and authentic slang.  Well worth a read or five.)

It almost makes me want to drink sometimes just to have a chance to use them.

What idiom do you wish you could use more often?
